Young rivals turned devoted friends, Clayton Dean (Of the Vine) and James Merritt (Gordan, Sylvia's Sun) formed Hymnal Moths as a recording project and occasional live act in late 2014. The multi-instrumentalists released their debut album No Spirit a year later, presenting Southern Gothic folk music blended with elements of early post-rock. Shortly after, they released No Spirit: Reworks and Remixes, a remix and rework compilation featuring murk daddy flex, Nigel Wright, Ladybird, and other friends of the project.
